Is that your only reason to go to Manila? Because I think Avenue Photo does delivery to anywhere in the Philippines. Their numbers are listed here in case you’d like to inquire. I’ve dealt with them and they’re very nice.

yup, they accept credit cards but usually with surcharge. the best way to find out really is to call them and ask for the latest quotes.

Hi, I’m am working with the AFP here in Mindanao and most of the time we are out in the field during operations. Im not a pro though. I have my Nikon D6O with its 18-5mm lens. Can you suggest any lens compatible with Nikon D60 preferably which can be used for long-range photography? Im planning to buy a D90 but i think it would be wiser to better buy a lens for my D60.

unfortunately, none at the moment. but you can check for items on sale at Tipid PC. their prices approach those in Hidalgo. konti lang difference, so you’ll have a good idea on how much you might have to spend.

I’m from Tacloban…

planning to buy my first dslr… as soon as I got my paycheck hopefully next week. uhm, available pa ba ang nikon d40? if ever na ubos na ok lang ba ang d60? hmm, how much pa kaya sila… sana hindi pa ako huli cuz I’m in dire need of my my or will be first dslr.huhuh would it be advisable if I flew right away there at hidalgo or order it nalang from here?

@scholasas: it’s always best to call the shops in hidalgo to confirm availability. maybe you can convince them to make a reservation for you and also haggle for the price.

why not save on air fare by having it delivered to you? i know that Avenue Photo delivers via courier even to provinces. not sure about the others, but you can call them and ask. i’ve listed the numbers here:

avenue only sells D60 body…alang lens…i tried to read reviews…D3000 can put up a fight against sa D60…given na ung D3000 kasama nya ay 18-55mm na VR lens…dunno lang sa Henry’s o Mayers kasi Saturday ako pumunta..sarado sila.

take a bus from alabang, go down at LRT. go down at carriedo Station. go inside SM to avoid the Human Traffic and at the exit near the stalls ud see hidalgo st already, take about 10 steps to the right ul see henrys already, mayers etc.

@paolo, if a newbie get d3000 & if your the type who like angles and is rich enough for repairs go with d5000 since the lcd will eventually go blank. check the dots on the lcd as well if it matters to you.

im selling 1000D kit- 23k only purchased last april 2009. you can start using this if you want something cheaper look for the old models of Nikon d40 perhaps? d60? mostly all at the 20k range. you will like the capabilities of an DSLR, malayo sa reg cam o digicam. there arent any ugly shots, maybe awkward ones when using an slr..

since you’re a beginner go with d3000 which costs way lower than D90.try d5000 as well

but i believe you mentioned P90 which isnt a DSLR.

If you are getting a “kit lens” then there will be an 18-55mm lens include, if you say “body” only then no lens will be included.

better get the d60, although thats an old model. what nikon is selling now is d3000. i believe ther’re still selling but you have to order it since its not common nowadays since the release of d5k and d3k. its somewhere between 21k-25k i think. you may want my 1000d though,23k

for example in avant/abenson d3000 is worth 36k plus with tripod and bag while in hidalgo the price would be 26k altough they have the same add ons.

like i said, its the rent. and or supplies at hidalgo are from the supplier itself? i dont know but im guessing its the rent.

stores in the malls pay expensive rent compared to hidalgo, which are usually their own homes.

perfect example is Mayers, it looks like dirt but i guess theyre credible enough.

and im gonna bet that d3000 costs less than 26k to produce.

process is the same as veggies from baguio…it sells for 20 pesos but once it arrive in manila its already 60 pesos. hehehe!

Depende po ‘yun sa inyo. Kapag KIT, kumpleto na ‘yun, may lens, body, neck strap, battery pack, charger, and sometimes even a 4gb memory card is included. Pero syempre there’s a difference in the price kung Kit o ‘yung body lang ang kukunin niyo.

@bicolman, mas maganda D5000 compared sa D3000 (LiveView, Tilt Screen, Video, great pics @ low light condition ,Handling, etc…)

Sir, ask ko lang po kung saan pwede magpalinis ng lens. Meron kasi akong Nikon 50mm f1.4 at Nikkor 20mm f2.8 gamit ko dati sa FM2 ko. Meron mga maliliit na dumi sa loob parang mga buhok. Dito ako nakatira sa Bikol. Gusto ko itong magamit at kabitan ng R72 IR filter. Ang gamit ko ngayon ay D90. Maraming salamat. Need your reply.

Yes it is safe to buy there, just dont get from the sidewalks…there are Stores there lined up and they even issue receipts. i got my 500D there and had it verified at canon, confirmed. i now have 3 yr warranty.

For nikon, they have 2 options, cams with or without the warranty.they call it CDSC or columbian/columbia warranty. do take note that there arent any official nikon shops here but maybe accredited ones for repairs.. Its better to buy there coz its really cheaper although not that safe unless if you have a car. If safety is an issue, have it delivered to your place if you want to, try calling them up.

if you also buy from abroad, your have to register its warranty locally. when purchasing a body, make sure its the cheapest, ud invest more on the lens.

1. d5000 but you have to consider its power issues and LCD concerns.

2. Id like to think that those are all new, since credibility is what they have given that they are in quiapo. When i had my 500D verified by canon, its brand new. You might want to bring a gadget to check if it has been used but chinoys are very good at technical stuffs.they can easily reset it.

3. I think Mayer offers the cheapest cams but you gotta add more if you use your CC. pay half cash half CC to make it at least 3% haha!

if you woul compute it, its about 3% nalang from the previous 6. lets say, 50k CC cash, 42k. thats 6%, u add 20k cash, bababa un and correct at 6% pero the price wil be equivalent to half the %.
thats what i did, pure CC SRP, more cash comes in, less the price.

i think D90 is still a little bit better. add 20k-30K+ for the lens. better buy tamron or sigma, has more range, faster AF and worth the money.

From the front of SM go at the very entrance of Hidalgo street, then walk to right facing hidalgo street, you will see Henrys, walk more onto the right, there will be a curve, at the very corner is Mayers. Look for a shop that looks like a junk shop, thats mayers hahaha! look at the opposite side of the street you should see BDO and BPI, mayer may be at your very back.:)

hi guys before i decide to buy my dslr this morning i stumbled on this thread and you guys have made a huge help in my purchasing decision. I was ready to shell out 52k as that is the price at abensons for a nikon d5000 kit til i read MAYERS and HENRYS. I was informed by this thread that the cheapest was at Mayer’s but I have to deal with the rudeness of Mang Ramon. I went there this afternoon and inquired D5000. Surprisingly he was very nice and accomodating to me. His initial price was 28k for the standard package but i guess he was in the good mood i haggled for 26k and he gave in plus 4G sdram, a generic DLSR bag and a FULL YEAR WARRANTY ON SERVICE AND PARTS. At Henry’s the price was 28k with standard lens and 4G memory plus only 6 months warranty on service alone PLUS the stupid BISAYA SALESMAN ignored me. It took me 3 times to ask the same question before he responded despite the fact that there are only 3 of us inside the store.

Over all I had a great deal from Mayers. Unbelievabe from my budgeted 52k down to 26k.

By the way, the next guy after me bought and inquired the same item ( D5000 ), mang ramon asked him -MAY CASH KA BA? then the guy said mag iinquire lang po muna - he said - PAG MAY CASH KA NA SASAGUTIN KO INQUIRE MO. To another buyer he gave the D5000 at 29k, the other guy asked him why it was only 26k for me - he said YUN PRICE KO KUNG AYAW MO LIPAT KA SA KABILA.

I guess he’s one heck of a temperamental guy.

nakabili na ako ng D5000 kanina. sa henry’s. rotating brown-out kaya napaka-init. kaya rin siguro mainit ulo ng may-ari ng mayers. HAHA

P27,500 bigay nila.. haaay. sagad na RAW yun.
D5000 kit + UV filter, bag (na di commendable ang zipper) + 1yr warranty

WA!!!! 29,000 na?? amf mukhang pinaubos lang ung 26-27k na nauna ah.. medyo mas naging patok kasi d5000 naramdaman cguro ng mga intsik na un! na itsapwera ung d3000. kaya bigla din sila taas presyo amf! kaasar! pinatagal tgal ko nga kako bka mas bumaba pa sa 26-27k may nkatawad daw kasi ng 26. amf!

Parang nakakatakot kasi pag swivel ung screen e. (D5000)

Ok din naman specs ng D5000.
Pinagpilian ko din yang D5000 sa Canon 500D. Pero mas naimpress ako sa specs ng 500D kaya ayun nalang yung binili ko.

Just be careful sa Swivel screen ng D5000. & ang alam ko mahirap kasi mag hanap ng battery grip nun. kaya sa 500D na talaga aq. Nag camera compare aq sa mga sites and even sa youtube. Mas ok padin nga 500D IMO.

Im a Nikon user. (D90)
Nag basa basa ako sa mga forums, and I found out nga na If we only look at the specifications, canon 500D is better than nikon D5000.

May friend ako 500D ang gamit. Almost 1 year niya ng gamit and okay naman daw. =)

Depende padin kasi yun sa lens & photographer kung marunong kayo mag explore ng settings ng cam =)

500D > Compact. Mas madaling dalhin pag mag tatravel. Up to 13200 ISO Max.

D5000 > Mejo malaki ang body niya. Up to 3200 ISO.

Hmmm…
I’d go for D90. HAHA! Gluck guys!

Cams sa Multiply, store warranty lang yan and pwedeng gamit na or rejects, who knows? canon Cams sa Hidalgo may 3 yr warranty yan kya asa 41-42k.Nikon wala tlga warranty, puro store unless if ud get the CDSC which is more expensive.

Deadly yang LCD ng d5000, it looks tempting and impressive. but in the long run, use it a lot, bend it more, it will black out.

That made the difference with my purchase of 500D

lahat nmn ng warranty ng nikon puro store warranty lang unless Columbia… yeah un ang kagandahan sa 500D made in japan tlga sya.. sa tibay sigurado nmn tlga pag japan. mas sharp & large ang screen. and the vid was a little great. and correct din na pag tagal pwede agad masira ung tilt screen ng d5000, depende sa pag gamit.. kung lagi mo gagamitin na pa rotate rotate sure na sure d tatagal.. kaya for me, dont tilt the screen as possible kung d nmn tlga kelangan.

about sa mga online seller of multiply.. d ko nmn ni-rerecomend its up to any1.. i just sharing the prices there.. and kung sasabihin nmn rejects d nmn cguro kasi my bestfriend bought her 500d last saturday and same warranty nmn ung bigay nila same as in hidalgo.. lahat nmn ng pagbili risky..
sa hidalgo pwede ka din ma hold up.. kung mag papa deliver ka kelagan din ata ng down thorugh money transfer… if im not mistaken???..

and some of the online sellers in multiply may pwesto din so u know where to return the cam pagmay na encounter kang prob. just always check their terms & condition before buying.. kung mas maganda warranty/offer edi syempre dun tyo.. right?

Cannon 550d

pros: 18 Mpixels; HD video with mic input; great screen.
Cons: Build quality, speed and AF same as cheaper 500D.
Overall: The best choice for high res images and movies on a budget.

Nikon d90

Pros: Great ergonomics, VGA screen, 720p movies, 4.5fps.
Cons: Movie mode is manual focus and has video artefacts.
Overall: A feature-packed DSLR at the upper-end of this category.

Mas okay naman talaga D90 kesa 550D. Magkalapit lang ng price, mag D90 kana lang if you have the budget. Kung gusto mo ng compact ang size & great for travel, go for 550D.

Buy also a UV filter to protect your lens, around P250.00 lang ang price.

I suggest go to kit lens muna since you are new in photography. Explore its full potential first before buying other lens.

At kung sino man nagsabi sau na hindi usable yung 18-55mm, they are wrong. A lot of good pictures are taken using the kit lens.

i agree with dencio 18-55 VR LENS IS GOOD, ACTUALLY KAHIT D KNA MAGPALIT… kung d nmn sorang layo ng mga kukunan mo.. kung pang malayuan telephoto pwede pwede na 55-200mm vr.

cpl means Circular Polarizer uv filter din sya kinakabit sa lens pero may effect sya.
search mo nlang sa google.. hirap paliwanag eh hehe..

ung lens pen pang linis ng lente.

cguro nga makaka-tawad ka pag dun ka bumili basta si mang ramon na kausapin mo at paalam mo na tlgang may pera ka.. tpos pangap ka na kulang na pera mo para ibigay tawad mo.. through phone kasi wala kang palag pag sinabi na last price na at hindi din si mang ramon nkausap ko.. atat lang tlga ko na bilhin agad kasi laging nagkakaron ng dahilan na magastos ko ung pera ko sa iba.

probably you’re saying na gagamitin mo yung lens in a stadium or in a similar place or setting. if you’re going to shoot in telephoto range, meaning, malayo yung subject, walang epekto ang gamit ng flash. Although there is a technique that can be done but its too technical to discuss here…

its up to you pa rin kung gusto mo bumili ng flash, anyway you could use it pa rin naman… may certain range lang kasi ang kayang abutin nito, what more if you’re taking a shot of a distant person or object, at action shot pa. you won’t feel the difference of attaching a separate flash kung pwede mo namang gamitin yung built-in. sa tingin ko ang kailangan mo e yung lens na may wide aperture and fast shutter speed, so you could get sharp pictures even if you zoom in

I’m sure maliwanag naman yung coliseum dahil may game ron… pwede na yung telephoto lens na sinasabi mo… may kamahalan na kasi if you’re going to buy a telephoto lens na may wide aperture… when i say aperture, that’s the opening on the lens whioh controls how much light will pass through… siempre mas malaki opening, mas malinaw ang kuha…

suggestion lang.. kung bibili ka ng d3000 and u will use it in sports. much better cguro kung d5k nalang bilhin mo.. base kasi sa mga reviews na nasearch ko.. mabagal daw ung d3000…

and about sa flash may nbasa din ata ko sa kenrockwell.. may mga range din ung naabot ng flash depende sa klase. ung sb-600 ata medyo pang malayuan. read ka mga review sa kenrockwell.com dami ka matutunan.

Guys, I suggest you to buy D90 than D5000. D90 is more expensive but mas sulit kasi ang D5000 walang motor yan so you need to buy lens na may motor napaka mahal pa naman noon else mag manual ka. compare to d90 may motor sya kahit bumili ka ng lens na wlang motor mag auto focus na sya.

Nag inquire ako henrys 28k pa canon1000d. Nafufrustr8 na 2loy ako.. Ill go for nikon d5000 sna na lang. Magkano kaya nila bbgay?

aw! 28k!!??? e ang 450 d nsa 27k lang din sa iba eh.. para ka ng bumili nga ng d5k nun 29k lang d5k sa hidalgo pwede din card sa hidalgo mayers & henry’s mas okay pa kesa sa 1000d and 450d ang d5k.. sa dbgadgets nsa 22k lang kasi 1000d & 450d = 27-28k, d5000 = 28,500 ata eh.. un nga lang they do not accept card.

d80 alam ko phase out na.. bka d90 ung tinutukoy mo… d90, - is a bit good to d5000 but more expensive, d5000 is much ok than d3000.

for me kung maganda gandang lens na, pwede na ung lens na 18-200mm if u have a budget. pero ung mga kasama nmn sa kit 18-55mm ok na din.. lalo na kung beginner ka plang nmn..

wala na bang available na d80 ngayon sa quiapo?

pwede mo ba akong bgyan ng idea sa advantages & disadvantages sa nikon d80, d3000 & d5000.

sa pag kakaalam ko wala na d80 tlga eh. kasi lumang model na sya.. kung meron man siguro 2ndhand nlang.. ang upgraded kasi dyan ung d90. which is much better.

ang d90 ang mas superior sa dalawa.. & sa mga features & much clear ang screen. mas madali ung mga function nya.. at higit sa pwede ung mga replacement lens s d90 which is much cheaper… in short ung mga len na hindi built in ung autofocus. kaya mas MAHAL sya.. hehe.

@ands: nag tatanong tanong din ako, pero ang lat na nakausap ko was henry’s. binigyan nila ko ng price if card pero halos same na lang siya ng mall, i think better pumunta dun

pwede ba yung partial payment, then yung tira eh i cacard? magbigay kaya sila ng tawad dun? like kunware 10k is cash rest is card?
