LaCie 8x Portable DVD Writer - bought, unboxed, and photographed

If you follow this blog, you’ll know about my storage predicament. Today I took the plunge and got myself a new external DVD writer in Cyberzone, SM Megamall. It was a difficult hunt. Almost every shop I went to either didn’t have stocks of any brand, or selling theirs at an unreasonably inflated price. Good thing I didn’t bite because I’ve researched prices thoroughly online. Again, thank goodness for the Internet.

Fortunately, CompLink had a few LaCie Portable DVD+/-RW with Lightscribe, which is exactly the type I was looking for. The cheapest listing I know for this product is P4,290 at Villman, but since they didn’t have any stocks, CompLink’s asking price of P4,500 was acceptable. The LaCie drive is “thin and light”, weighing in at only 319g. This DVD writer can be powered by just one USB cable, but it comes with an extra USB cable in case you need to get more power. You also have the option to use the included AC adapter.

Here are some shots of the box’s contents:

Lesson learned: call first, buy later. Check stocks and ask them to reserve what you need. I really should have known better. I’ll post a review in a few days.
