Staunch rival of the Blue H1, the Astone UMPC boasts of slightly higher specs and more features at the same price. Choosing one over the other can be difficult, and will probably depend on personal preference more than anything else. For starters, here are the specs:

  • VIA C7-M … ULV 1.2GHz
  • VIA VX700 (Single Chipset)
  • 1.0Gb DDR2-667 SO-DIMM
  • Integrated in VX700
  • 7 inches WVGA Touch Panel, 800 x 480 pixels
  • Built-in 2 high quality speakers (1.5W)
  • 4-in-1 Card Reader
  • 60Gb SATA Hard Drive
  • 80-key with Inverted-T cursor keys and Windows
  • Hot keys: Micro Pad with 2 Click Buttons
  • I/O ports: 1 x DVI port / 2 x USB 2.0 ports / 1 x DC-in jack
  • Audio ports: 1 x Headphone / Line out jack , 1 x Microphone in jack (w/ Array Mic.)
  • LAN: 1 x RJ-45 port for 10/100 Mbps Ethernet LAN
  • WiFi: IEEE 802.11b/g
  • Bluetooth: present
  • Battery / Battery Life: 3-cell Li-ION / Up to 3.25-hours (3.50-hrs std. by)
  • Dimension: 230 (W) x 171 (D) x 29.4 (H)

Compared to the Blue H1, it has a slightly higher processor speed, but you won’t really feel the different unless you’re using demanding applications like Photoshop or some games. Its hard drive is also bigger at 60GB, has Bluetooth, and has a 7″ touchscreen display. It only weighs about 850g, which makes it one of the lightest 7-inchers around. The downside is that the trackpad is so tiny that it can be quite difficult to use, and that’s where the touchscreen is handy (though not everybody will be comfortable with this setup). Battery life is also shorter compared to the H1. If the pros outweigh the cons for you, then you should consider buying this netbook that sells for P9,995 for the Linux version, and P11,995 for the Windows XP Home version.
