Hidalgo camera shops and contact numbers

Forget the malls. If you’re out to buy a camera or some accessories, Hidalgo Street is the place to be. Named after the painter Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, this stretch of shops near the Quiapo Church and Plaza Miranda is known to professionals and serious hobbyists as a haven for photographers. Hey, it’s where I got my camera.
It’s where the lowest prices can be had (about 5-10K lower than malls), and there’s enough variety to ensure you get what you really want. Just a few years ago it was dirty and filled with street vendors, making it difficult to navigate. The city had a project to clean it up, and now it looks much, much better.
But before you trek to Hidalgo, better call the shops first to see if they have your item on stock. It will save you from heartache. Also, some of them do delivery so check if that’s more convenient for you. Haggle. Remember that prices are not etched in stone. Here’s a list of their phone numbers:

Hi. Nice post about Hidalgo. I was wondering if the other stores there accept creditcards?? Im short on cash.. hehe Im still planning to buy a d40 even though its hard to find. thsnk for the post about it being difficult to find. I also heard that some stores there have 6% interest on credit cards?? is this true?? thanks and more power….
Hi Vince. According to forums I frequent, most of the established ones do accept credit cards, but some might insist on charging extra with this method so be prepared for it. Haven’t tried this myself, though, because I always buy cash to avoid the hassle. Good luck!

@jessa: i’m not sure about that. i think asking someone if you can use their credit card is your best bet. it will probably have interest, though. please call them at the number above to ask for the best deals.
