Confessions: A rundown of my own gadgets
Posted by Scout on November 25, 2008

“Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.”
To a certain extent, this old saying is true, and you could also say the same from a persons possessions. That is, tell what your house/car/(insert word here) and I’ll tell you who you are. Before I write anything here, let me introduce myself by way of my gadgets, all of which I bought using my own money.
ECS W330D - Purchased October 2006 for less than 30K at PC Express. This laptop has a 14″ widescreen, 1.6GHz Pentium M, 768MB RAM, and a mere 40GB of storage. Not very impressive specs, but as a writer, do I really need a gaming rig? This is my first laptop, and I’m quite satisfied with it. Never had a hardware failure, even when I use it 24/7.
Canon PowerShot S3 - Purchased February 2007 for 19K at Hidalgo, Quiapo (was 27K at the time in dept stores). Couldn’t be any happier with the 12x optical zoom and super macro mode. The S series is a perfect fit for serious beginners to casual hobbyists who don’t want to deal with the expensive lenses needed for DSLRs.
Motorola RAZR V3 - Purchased 2nd hand from a friend @ 7.5K roughly 3 years ago. It’s been run over by cars and it’s still working. It’s one tough cookie.
MSI Wind - Purchased September 2008 for 26K at PC Corner. It has an Intel Atom, 10″ screen, 1GB RAM, and about the same specs as any other netbook. It’s really more of my partner’s but I share it with her when traveling (because the ECS W330D is too darn big to carry).
MP3 Player - Purchased January 2005 for 3.7K at SM Megamall Cyberzone. One of those generic players with 512MB storage and FM reception. Never really used it much except as a USB thumb drive, but it can be handy on occasions. You won’t ever see me with an iPod, that’s for sure.
Smart Prepaid 3G Modem - Purchased November 2008 for 2.5K at Ali Mall. As a backup for uninterrupted work in case the DSL goes down and for connectivity during trips to the provinces.
Maxtor Basics Portable HDD - Purchased November 2008 for 5.7K at Villman, Gateway. A 320GB drive for backup.
Linksys WRT54GC - Purchased December 2006 for 5K at Villman, Megamall. For household WiFi. Very convenient and easy to set up.
Now that you know most of mine, share your gadgets in a comment below.

[...] Forget the malls. If you’re out to buy a camera or some accessories, Hidalgo Street is the place to be. Named after the painter Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, this stretch of shops near the Quiapo Church and Plaza Miranda is known to professionals and serious hobbyists as a haven for photographers. Hey, it’s where I got my camera. [...]
